Don't get caught up with your Social Media Reach



It is so easy to get caught up with the follower count or the number of likes you have per piece of content but I am here to tell you that it is not what you should be focused on. I was having a conversation with a client the other day and we had mentioned the vanity of having so many followers and how it boosts your ego a little when you get followers or when people like and share your content. I agree. It feeds self esteem when I get those as well. However, like I told my client.

I can get 1 million followers and if none of them buy my products or use my services then I am still at zero.

I need to focus more on authentic praise from clients and target audiences. I need to build my brand around a community. You should be focused on building relationships with your customers. No, I am not saying you go out for beers or or share family recipes but you need to have a trusting and honest business relationship. They need to know that you are doing business the right way and in a way that is productive for them. Transparency is what your audience is looking for. Social media is for sharing your brand and creating talk but it is called SOCIAL media for a reason! It is to be social on and to use a back and forth conversation between you and your customers.


I talk about brand advocates an awful lot. For those of you who are new, a brand advocate is an unpaid ambassador for your brand. It is a rockstar buyer/client of yours who spreads the word about your brand without being asked. They have fallen in love with your WOW factor and your products so they shout it from the roof tops. However, you will never find a Brand Advocate if you do not create the relationships that they require.


There is fierce competition in what you do. I don't even know what you do but I know you have competitors. you need to stand out. And let me tell you, your follower count or your likes on content is not going to give you the one up. You need the trust and honesty that comes with transparency.


You need to create great content that provides value. This will get that audience that you are targeting and they will come back wanting more and needing more. They will turn to your product for their needs that they didn't even know they had! This type of content will get them talking and will give you the chance to talk and listen to them. To the RIGHT audience.


So, instead of chasing that like button or the follower count, start thinking about your long game. Start focusing on Brand Advocates and building relationships.
